In the beginning there was a bumblebee...
I've been learning millinery skills and techniques from the
ever inspiring Rose Cory since early 2011. Here are some of my first
year's creations...
|
My first ever hat!
Bumblebee fascinator: Sinamay and ribbon |
|
Purple flying saucer: Hand-felted merino wool on a sinamay base |
|
Traditional top hat: silk shell on felt foundation
(And without doubt the most difficult I've ever made - it's a little bit big for me but a perfect fit for Chris's 25 inch head!) |
|
Origami blackbird: Stiffened silk taffeta
(And still awaiting mounting onto base / headband - once I got the origami bug, I couldn't stop making birds!) |
|
Ascot hat: Sinamay, cotton ribbon, wire and foil ribbon.
I
wanted something pretty different for Ascot, and wanted to bring
together as many elements of the races as I could. Here I've combined
the winning post, rosette, track and horseshoes - see if you can spot
it at Ascot 2013! |
|
My first commission!
Feather cornucopia: Two tone double layer sinamay scroll with various curled feathers in pinks and nudes |
|
Pierced heart: Rolled pink and grey petersham on a sinamay base; stripped turkey feather arrow with guinea fowl feather overlay
| |
|
Blossom cage hat: Velvet covered wire cage form, decorated with silk and cotton velvet, organdie and taffeta flowers and leaves |
